Thelwall Morris no longer Men only

Thelwall Morris Men have now completed 50 years of dancing as a men only side culminating with the traditional AGM in early October.

While it is the end of an era they are starting a new era fitting in with modern thinking by opening membership to all genders. To that end, motions were proposed at the AGM, that the team be renamed Thelwall Morris and that the membership should be “open to all”. Both of these proposals were passed with a very healthy majority.

To begin the new Thelwall Morris there will be an open evening on Wednesday 25th October at Thelwall Parish Hall from 7.30pm, for anyone who may be interested in learning Traditional English Morris dancing. The dances are quite energetic so your fitness level, if not high at the moment, over the coming months may well improve. If you think you have “two left feet”, that is likely to get resolved. On these two counts, you won’t find out unless you come along on the 25th October.

The current members are mostly “not young”, and that in itself is testament to the health value of this activity. One of our members is still dancing with us after 50 years. Here’s to the next 50 years as a ‘mixed side’

Remember: open Night for Thelwall Morris interested parties is Wednesday 25th October 2023 at Thelwall Parish Hall from 7.30pm.
